Copenhagen Marathon

Run through Denmark’s beautiful capital – the Copenhagen Marathon is one of Scandinavia’s most popular running events, and now you can join a journey where everything is prepared for your best running experience.

Stay comfortably at the centrally located Scandic Copenhagen or Comfort Hotel Vesterbro and enjoy the perfect warm-up for the race. We start the weekend with a joint shake-out run and a joint trip to the expo, where we pick up number tags and familiarise ourselves with the start and finish area.

On Saturday evening, we’ll gather for a tasty pasta dinner – the perfect energy boost for Sunday’s big challenge. Once the finish line is crossed and the medals are around our necks, we celebrate together with a nice after-run dinner, where we recognise everyone’s achievements and enjoy the fantastic community that makes the running experience so special.

Number plate distribution and exhibition

Before the race, all registered runners will receive a confirmation email with practical information.

You can pick up your bib number at the Copenhagen Marathon Expo, which is organised in Forum Copenhagen.

To retrieve the licence plate you need:

Transport

We recommend that you cycle, walk or use public transport when visiting the fair.

The metro goes all the way to the entrance. Take line M1 or M2 and get off at Forum.

The start

Our hotel is centrally located in Copenhagen with good transport links to the start and finish area on Øster Allé next to Fælledparken. We recommend that you take public transport or walk to the start area on race day. The nearest metro station is Trianglen.

The Copenhagen Marathon starts at 09.30, and runners are released in several different start groups (waves). Your start group is indicated by your start number and the start area is divided into colour-coded sections. Each group is led to the start line when it’s time for their start.

We recommend that you arrive at the Runners Area at least 60 minutes before the start, so that you have time to put your bag down, go to the toilets, warm up and find the right starting area.

Returning clothes

Clothing and bag storage is available in the Runners Area at the start and finish area. Attach the luggage tag from your starter pack to your bag and place it in the large white tents. After the race, you can pick up your bag again by showing your start number.

Please note that there may be queues at the drop-off point, so arrive in good time.

Start area and track

Start and finish are at Øster Allé in Fælledparken, where the Runners Area is also located. Here you’ll find toilets, water stations, luggage storage and the opportunity to meet family and friends before and after the race.

The Copenhagen Marathon is known as a fast and flat urban race that runs through several of Copenhagen’s most famous areas. The course runs through the city centre, Nyhavn, Christianshavn, Frederiksberg, Vesterbro, Nørrebro and Østerbro. The crowds are fantastic along large parts of the course, and the race is considered one of Europe’s fastest city marathons.

The maximum time is 6 hours.

Temperatures in May tend to be around 10-18 degrees, which normally provides very good running conditions.

Fluid and energy during the race

There are hydration stations all along the course. All fixed stations serve both water and HIGH5 sports drinks. In addition, HIGH5 gels are offered at two stations along the course.

The organisers recommend that you refill both water and sports drinks regularly during the race to stay hydrated, energised and hydrated.

At the same time, we recommend that you bring your own energy close to your body if you are used to specific gels or energy products.

The objective

The finish line is located on Øster Allé, in the same area as the start, which makes logistics very easy. After the finish, you’ll receive a medal, recovery and the opportunity to meet family and friends in the Runners Area. There’s also plenty of space to sit down, change and enjoy the feeling of having run 42.195 kilometres through Copenhagen.

How does it work?

Register for the European Marathon Classics: You create an account and register for the challenge.
Run at least five races: You need to complete five different marathons in the series to become an official finisher.
Collect medal pieces: After each completed race, you will receive a unique coin that will become part of your European Marathon Classics medal.
No time limit: You have unlimited time to complete the challenge. Previous results will also be recorded.
