Vienna Marathon & Half Marathon

The Vienna Marathon offers a unique combination of running fun, history and beautiful cityscapes. Known for being both fast and inspiring, the race takes you through the city’s wide streets and past some of Vienna’s most famous landmarks. The race starts at the Danube and continues towards the historic city centre, where magnificent buildings, bridges and monuments line the route.

Along the route you’ll be greeted by music, enthusiastic spectators and a great atmosphere that will make the experience memorable from start to finish. When the race is over, Vienna awaits you with its classic cafés, impressive cultural heritage and relaxed atmosphere. Here you can celebrate your achievement with great food, explore the city’s historic neighbourhoods and enjoy a weekend of running and adventure.

Licence plate distribution / Expo

The Expo is held in the “Vienna Sports World” in the Marx Halle at Karl-Farkas-Gasse 19 in Vienna. Here you can pick up your race number and chip, visit exhibitors in the fields of running, sports and training and get information about the race in the days leading up to the race.

Opening hours:
– Friday before the race: approx. 10:00 – 19:00
– Saturday before the race: approx. 10:00 – 19:00
To collect your race number, bring your registration confirmation (printed or digital) showing that you are registered and your ID document (passport or national ID card).

Start and transport

For the start at Reichsbrücke, it is recommended to use the Vienna Metro or walk from the nearby stations as many streets are closed and traffic is affected early on race day.

Dropping off clothes

It is possible to drop off clothes and luggage before the race. To use this service, you must pre-book the clothing drop-off via your race account in advance, otherwise it will not be available.

Start area and track

The start area is located at the Reichsbrücke and is well organised with clear start stalls divided by expected finish time, baggage claim and toilets, and runners are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before the start to allow time to get ready.

The route is relatively flat and fast and takes you through Vienna’s most iconic areas – along the Danube, through the Prater, over large boulevards and past classic buildings before finishing on Ringstrasse.

Hydration and energy during the race

There are hydration stations approximately every 5 kilometres where runners can get water and sports drinks. Some stations also offer energy in the form of gels, fruit or small snacks to keep energy levels up during the race. The stations are clearly marked and staffed by officials and all runners are encouraged to plan their fluid and energy intake according to their needs.

Location of finish line

The finish line is located on the large Ringstrasse, right next to the Burgtheater, in the heart of the historic city centre. Runners cross the finish line to the cheers of the crowd, where officials hand out medals, water and light refreshments, and there is an opportunity to collect luggage that was dropped off before the start.

The area around the finish line is full of atmosphere and celebration as runners celebrate their achievements with family and friends.

App and website

There is an official Vienna Marathon app for participants and spectators to use.

Often referred to as the VCM Event & Tracking App, it offers features such as live runner tracking, split times, finish predictions, live results, rankings and important messages before and during the race. You can also follow selected runners if you have their number or name in the app.

The app is available for Android and iOS and is usually updated before each year’s Vienna Marathon event to include up-to-date information about the race.

The Vienna Marathon is one of Europe’s most classic city races, offering a perfect blend of running experience, culture and urban splendour. Every spring, thousands of runners from all over the world gather to run a fast and scenic route through Vienna’s historic neighbourhoods, parks and wide boulevards.

The race starts at the Reichsbrücke and takes runners along the Danube, through the city’s lush Prater, past imperial palaces and classical buildings before finishing on the magnificent Ringstraße right next to the Burgtheater. Along the route, runners are greeted by music, applause and an enthusiastic crowd, making every kilometre memorable.
