Stockholm – the largest capital city in the Nordic region, where history, nature and city life come together
Stockholm is a city that captivates visitors with its unique combination of historic settings, modern design and proximity to nature. Built on 14 islands and linked by over 50 bridges, Stockholm is often referred to as the ‘Venice of Scandinavia’. Here, cobbled streets and royal palaces meet innovative gastronomy, trendy shopping and a vibrant cultural scene.
Whether you’re planning a weekend break, an active holiday or a longer stay, Stockholm offers something for everyone, whatever your taste and whatever the season. Stockholm is a city where you can easily combine city life with peaceful experiences in the great outdoors.
A short walk can take you from bustling shopping streets to green parks and waterside promenades. Among the city’s most cherished areas are: Gamla Stan, with its colourful houses and historic alleyways; Stockholm Palace, one of Europe’s largest royal palaces; Djurgården, a green oasis filled with parks, museums and walking trails. The Stockholm archipelago, with thousands of islands offering fantastic day-trip destinations.
It is this combination of history, culture and nature that makes Stockholm one of Europe’s most prized travel destinations.
About the race
Discover Stockholm in your running shoes! Stockholm is one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities and offers the perfect combination of culture, nature and city life. Before and after the race, there are plenty of opportunities to stroll through the Old Town, enjoy the city’s restaurants or relax in one of the city’s many parks and waterfront areas.
The 2027 route builds on the classic route of recent years – but with a new rhythm and a slightly flatter course. Vasagatan takes the runners straight down towards Gamla Stan, which is now circled on both laps. In Södermalm, the route passes through the bustling SoFo for the first time, before turning north again. And on Kungsholmen, a longer, more spectator-friendly stretch along Norr Mälarstrand awaits, all the way to the City Hall.
The most challenging sections – Katarinavägen, Hornsgatan/Lundagatan and Västerbron – also come earlier in the race, setting the tone for the experience from the halfway point of the marathon. A familiar route, in a new order – with even more city, spectators and character.
The course is 42,195 metres long and is verified in accordance with the rules laid down by the Swedish Athletics Federation and the International Association of Athletics Federations.
