About the race

The Vienna Marathon is one of Europe’s most classic city races, offering a perfect blend of running experience, culture and urban splendour. Every spring, thousands of runners from all over the world gather to run a fast and scenic route through Vienna’s historic neighbourhoods, parks and wide boulevards.

The race starts at the Reichsbrücke and takes runners along the Danube, through the city’s lush Prater, past imperial palaces and classical buildings before finishing on the magnificent Ringstraße right next to the Burgtheater. Along the route, runners are greeted by music, applause and an enthusiastic crowd, making every kilometre memorable.

The route is relatively flat and fast, making it a popular race for both first-time runners and elite runners aiming for personal bests. Along the way, you’ll be rewarded with views of the city’s most iconic sights, from St Stephen’s Cathedral to the Vienna State Opera, as you experience Vienna’s elegant atmosphere up close.

The Vienna Marathon is more than just a marathon – it’s a whole weekend of running fun, with half marathons and relays also attracting thousands of participants, making the event an international running festival.
